As a Civil Senior Estimator in Sydney, Australia, you would play a crucial role in the construction industry. Your primary responsibility would be to estimate the costs and resources required for civil engineering projects. This involves analyzing project plans, conducting site visits, and collaborating with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information for accurate cost estimations.

Must have very good comms and a water/sewer/electrical background and must have first principles experience estimating via excel.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  2. Bid Preparation: Collaborate with the bid team to develop competitive bids by analyzing project requirements, evaluating risks, and determining pricing strategies.
  3. Quantity Takeoffs: Perform quantity takeoffs from engineering drawings and specifications to accurately determine project quantities and costs.
  4. Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Solicit quotes and negotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors to secure the best pricing and ensure project profitability.
  5. Cost Analysis: Conduct cost analysis to identify areas of potential cost savings, value engineering opportunities, and cost risks.
  6. Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation, including cost breakdowns, pricing sheets, and reports, to support bid submissions and project management.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends, materials costs, and construction methodologies to improve cost estimating accuracy and efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications:
  1. Civil Engineering Background: A degree in civil engineering or a related field is preferred, providing you with a strong technical foundation for understanding construction projects.
  2. Estimation Experience: Prior experience in civil estimation or construction estimating is essential, as it demonstrates your ability to analyze project requirements and accurately estimate costs.
  3. Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail is crucial to ensure accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimations.
  4. Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing construction plans, specifications, and project scopes to identify cost factors and potential risks.
  5. Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication skills are necessary to collaborate with various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, subcontractors, and clients.
