About the Role:
Design & Build are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join a dynamic team in Sydney. This exciting opportunity will involve working on a range of complex structural engineering projects, with a focus on designing and managing temporary works solutions such as formwork, scaffolding, and shoring systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading temporary works designs, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations, and working closely with project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, analysis, and implementation of temporary works solutions, including scaffolding, formwork, shoring, and other construction systems for civil and structural projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, and contractors to ensure the effective integration of temporary works with permanent structures.
- Conduct detailed structural analysis and design calculations for temporary works systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, local codes, and safety standards.
- Review and approve temporary works drawings and designs, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of temporary works on-site, conducting site inspections to ensure all safety and quality standards are met.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and staff, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
- Contribute to the preparation of tender documents, cost estimates, and project proposals.
- Work closely with clients and contractors to resolve technical challenges related to temporary works.
- Ensure that all designs and practices align with current industry best practices and local regulatory requirements.
- Assist with continuous improvement of engineering processes and design techniques to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or related field).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in temporary works design and engineering, with a proven track record in civil or structural engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of temporary works systems, including scaffolding, shoring, and formwork.
- Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
- Thorough knowledge of Australian Standards, building codes, and safety regulations related to temporary works.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels, including clients, contractors, and project teams.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to manage and develop junior engineers.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential risks and challenges.
- Chartered status with Engineers Australia or equivalent professional body.
- Experience in designing temporary works for large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and 3D modeling tools.
